On machine gauges are designed to be used inside the machine or on a bench outside the machine, they typically have dedicated preset sizes or can be set to master locations as in the picture above. 

They are simple to use and ensure "1st cut good cut" for large or cumbersome tools that do not need to be removed from the machine for tool change.

A range of DTI Indicators or Clocks are available to match your setting requirements, electronic comparators and length gauges have also been used where needed.

Magnetic 'V' Blocks ensure the gauge stays on the tool during adjustment.
